Job description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Data Scientist to join our team and help use improve the Belgian rail services by leveraging our data.
In this role, you will analyse and interpret large sets of data and turn that information into actionable insights that drive business decisions. You will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced statistical models and algorithms to solve complex problems, as well as communicating findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will also be involved in the maintenance of running models as well as in the continuous improvement of our MLOps setup.
The projects you will work on are both operational (improve punctuality, security, reduce energy consumption of trains, …) and strategic.
Responsibilities:
Collect, process, and analyse large sets of data to uncover patterns and insights
Develop and implement advanced statistical models and algorithms to solve complex problems
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate data insights into actionable business recommendations
Stay current with industry trends and new technology to continuously improve data analysis techniques and tools
Ensure run and maintenance of existing models in production
Collaborate on the setup of an MLOps environment with the data engineers of the company
Job requirements
Degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field
Experience with cloud computing solution (we use Azure)
Strong programming skills in Python, PySpark, SQL
Experience with machine learning algorithms and libraries (such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, etc.)
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Speak English, and knowledge of a local language (Dutch or French) is a plus
Willingness to continuously learn
Hybrid working is normal, but onsite presence is also required
