Job description

About SNCB/NMBS
We aim to become a data-driven organization where data is a shared asset, enabling stakeholders to access a common view of company data. Our mission is to provide tools and methods that empower users to analyze and explore data, driving insights, decisions, and predictions that improve customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Role Overview

As a Data Governance Expert within the Data & Analytics team, you play a key role in establishing and evolving SNCB’s data governance framework. You will guide its implementation, ensure compliance, and foster data literacy across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Framework Development: Design, implement, and continuously improve SNCB’s data governance framework (covering target operating model, roles and responsibilities, data governance bodies, business glossary, data catalog, data quality, and regulatory compliance).

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business and IT teams to align governance processes with strategic objectives and business needs.

  • Change Management: Act as a change agent for framework roll-out, providing tailored support, training, and coaching to embed new data roles (e.g., towards Data Owner, Data Steward).

  • Process Management: Develop and monitor governance processes, analyze non-compliance, and implement corrective actions.

  • Operational Oversight: Ensure quality and timely execution of governance tasks (e.g., documenting business terms, classifying data, defining data quality rules).

  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track governance indicators, data quality, and privacy compliance; report issues and propose improvements.

  • Community Leadership: Lead and participate in internal and external data governance communities.

Job requirements

  • Proven experience or keen interest in data governance, and/or data modelling, and/or data protection and privacy by design in large organizations.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to simplify complex regulatory and technical topics for non-technical audiences.

  • Familiarity with or interest in enterprise architecture, industry-leading data management and governance tools, and risk data architecture methods.

  • Master’s degree or equivalent by experience.

  • Additional certification (CIGO, AAIM or equivalent) is a plus.

  • Fluent in English and in Dutch or French; with active knowledge of Dutch or French.

Our offer

Within our open corporate culture, you contribute to the digital transformation of SNCB. You will have a job with social impact and ample opportunity to make your own contribution. In addition to a good work-life balance and a competitive salary, you will receive the following benefits:

  • the possibility to work remotely + flexible working hours;

  • 35 days of leave;
